“I challenge you, my dear writer, publisher or reader, to take charge of your future. Imagine a brighter and better future ahead, where the culture of books reigns supreme, where more people are discovering, reading, purchasing, publishing, selling, and profiting from books. Imagine a future where more readers than ever before will enjoy a greater diversity of books than ever before. Imagine a future where the power center of the publishing business shifts from traditional publishers to ordinary writers where it belongs.”
~Mark Coker, Founder of Smashwords.com, on the Smashwords blog
The New Year’s celebration has come and gone, but it’s not too late to make one last resolution, and make it one that you’ll actually keep. If you’ve been holding on to your manuscript or fragments of one and have it squirreled away, it’s time to bring it out and make this year the year that you publish your book. Chances are it needs some work, but why not seek help in getting it done?
As we discussed in our recent blog post, “I Want to Write a Book. Where Do I Start?” there are a million reasons for procrastinating when it comes to finishing that manuscript. Even though the prospect of writing or publishing seems daunting, if it’s one of your goals, why not push the excuses aside and just start doing it?
There are a few things you can do to help kick-start the process, such as taking a writing class, attending a writing workshop/retreat, or joining (or starting) a local writers’ group. While writing is often viewed as a solitary endeavor, it can be helpful to be around people who can provide support. These types of activities can really help get the juices flowing, provide ideas for how to keep it going, and provide camaraderie for like-minded writers.
As a motivator to help you keep your resolution, SDP Publishing would like to review your manuscript at no charge. Send us a one-paragraph book synopsis (under 300 words), your author bio, and the first chapter of your manuscript. We will offer you some advice and let you know if you are on the right track. Do you have a potential best-seller on your hands? Do you need some polishing? Or shall we go back to the drawing board?
For a more in-depth review, including a sample of our tracked-changes editorial advice on the first 10 pages, and a written, detailed document containing overall editorial suggestions, please send in your full manuscript, including a 300-word book synopsis, author bio, and payment of $150. If you are happy with the review, we’ll send you a quote to complete the editorial process. The deposit will be used toward the total editorial fee.
Please contact us for more information about having your manuscript reviewed. Let us help you keep this one New Year’s resolution!
